During the summer, the convent bursts with activity, hosting children’s camps and community events.

As the story goes, a proposed separation barrier in 2006 threatened to cut the convent off from surrounding communities and annex a significant portion of its land, making it a symbol of the ongoing Israeli-Palestinian conflict. The road to the convent passes by a coordinating office between Israel and the Palestinian Authority, a poignant reminder of the complex political landscape surrounding this sacred space. While it faced significant challenges from 2006 onwards, the convent persevered. The Israeli Supreme Court ruled in 2015 protecting the convent, safeguarding its integrity as a Palestinian site.
