How about a building that helped shape Spain’s digital age? That is Edificio C. It is part of the Escuela Técnica Superior de Ingenieros de Telecomunicación ETSIT. This translates to the Higher Technical School of Telecommunications Engineering. We are standing before a place of innovation.

Edificio C is more than just bricks and mortar. It is a hub for research. Professors and researchers fill its offices. Laboratories hum with activity inside Edificio C. The Joaquín Serna Telecommunications Museum resides within its walls.

Let’s step back in time. The ETSIT’s story began in 1913. It started as the General Telegraphy School. The school was on Calle Conde de Peñalver. In 1957 it became the ETSIT. The school moved to Ciudad Universitaria in 1965. That is when Edificio C became part of the ETSIT complex.

Edificio C connects to Edificio B. It mainly houses research labs and faculty offices. The Institute of Solar Energy is attached. Edificio C plays a vital role in the school’s mission.

Javier Carvajal and José María García de Paredes designed the building. Its construction finished in 1964. The school officially opened in 1965. The building has a metallic and concrete structure. Pizarra stone, glass, and metal panels form its facade. These materials give it a technological feel.

The ETSIT consists of four buildings. These are Buildings A, B, C, and D. Each building contributes to the academic environment. Edificio C enhances the research capabilities of the university.

Notably, the school has appeared in films. It acted as RTVE studios in “Muertos de risa”. Its facade appeared as a sheriff station in “Las Vegas, 500 millones”. This adds a layer of cultural significance to the ETSIT.

Many graduates have walked these halls. They helped usher Spain into the digital age. They learned skills here that shaped a nation. The school continues to evolve. It adapts to new challenges in engineering. The ETSIT began teaching biomedical engineering in 2011. Data engineering started in 2020. The school and Edificio C remain at the forefront of technology.

So remember Edificio C. It is a place where ideas come to life. It is where the future of telecommunications is being built. Its impact goes far beyond its walls. It touches all of our lives.
