Baiwang Mountain Forest Park is near Beijing’s downtown area. It is only 24 km northwest of the city center. The park is easily accessible. You can reach the east gate by bus or subway. Bus lines 303, 305, 346, 384, 394, and 932 stop at Heishanhu Beikou. From there, it is a short walk to the gate. Subway Line 16 will also bring you close. Alight at Malianwa Station and walk westward.
Baiwang Mountain is also known as Wangershan. This means “watching her son from the mountain”. The name comes from a Song Dynasty story. A brave Yang family fought against enemies. Six of the nine men died in battle. The women, especially the mother, joined the fight. She climbed Baiwang Mountain to support her son.
This park has smooth roads. Children and the elderly can hike easily. The paths lead to the mountain top. From there, you can see the whole city of Beijing. The tree coverage is over 95%. It provides abundant oxygen.
Keep an eye out for squirrels. You might even spot a mountain chicken. In autumn, the red leaves create a stunning view.
Inside the park, you will discover stone steles. They showcase Chinese calligraphy and art. These tall stones feature different calligraphy styles. The works of Mao Zedong are represented here. You will also find works by other leaders, celebrities, and artists. These steles promote forest planting and protection. See the Stele Pavilion, Stele Corridor, and Stele Art Wall.
Baiwang Mountain Forest Park is the nearest forest park to Beijing. It lies 3 km north of the Summer Palace. The park covers more than 200 hectares. The Jing-Mi diversion canal curves around it. Baiwang Mountain is the easternmost peak of the Taihang Mountain Range. It is known as the First Peak of Entering into Taihang Mountain. The main peak is 210 meters high. Climb to the top and enjoy views of the North China Plain.
Many steles inside the park promote a green environment. Pavilions and corridors form a stele forest. They collect inscriptions, poems, and calligraphy. These works are part of a greenification campaign.
The park also has a memorial hall. It tells the story of over 200 revolutionary martyrs. You can see precious photos and letters. Visit the Sh’e Temple. It honors a heroine from the Northern Song Dynasty.
Enjoy rock climbing and hiking. A music bar awaits you at the mountain top. Twelve rock-climbing routes cater to all skill levels.
