“Noble families once dwelled here.” That’s the first thought that comes to mind as we approach Casa dos Marialves. This house has seen interesting days.

Casa dos Marialves proudly displays its history. We can see the sign of nobility. The coat of arms made of stone sits on the north-eastern corner.

In 1808, a darker chapter unfolded at Casa dos Marialves. Napoleon’s troops ransacked the house. Their stay was short. The French troops quickly lost the war and were kicked out.

A fire in 1940 destroyed most of Casa dos Marialves. It was rebuilt on the old foundation. The replica is very identical to the original building.

Many years someone drove by Casa dos Marialves. It always triggered interest. They booked a stay and started a fantastic friendship with the owners. This manor house embodies Portugal. It’s a beautiful building with an incredible family. The food is good and the house is full of history. Douro and Port wine are produced on the property. Its location opposite Régua is great for tourists.

Staying at Casa dos Marialves means connecting with an interesting family. They make you feel welcome. Remember this is a family house not a hotel. You can’t call room service at 3:30 AM for a chicken sandwich. But you could make the sandwich yourself in the kitchen.

Enjoy the flow of Casa dos Marialves. You will have an amazing stay. You’ll learn a lot about the Douro, Portugal, and its people. Dine at Casa dos Varais even with nice restaurants nearby. Sitting in the museum-like dining room is marvelous.

There are only four rooms to rent in the property. Reserve your room early, especially during harvest time.

If visiting during harvest, ask about the “Pousa.” It’s a traditional festivity with grape treading, music, and dance. This party alone is a reason to visit Casa dos Marialves. João and Ernestina revived this old tradition.

Vineyards and a large garden with fruit trees surround Casa dos Marialves. As a guest, roam around and discover beautiful things. Find a quiet place to read. Sit under an orange tree or on a terrace overlooking the river and Régua. It’s a fantastic place for a time-out.

Casa dos Marialves sits on the Douro’s south bank. It looks towards Régua. It’s easy to visit Quintas between Régua and Pinhão from here.

Casa dos Marialves offers a glimpse into the past. Noble families, wartime events, and a fiery destruction have shaped its story. Today, it stands as a testament to resilience. It is also a warm invitation to experience Portuguese hospitality.
