Thác Tóc Tiên

“Did the fairies really bathe here?” a child’s voice chirped, echoing the question many visitors to Thác Tóc Tiên have pondered. Thác Tóc Tiên, or Fairy Waterfall, cascades down the slopes of Ba Na Mountain, near Da Nang. Its waters, flowing from a height of 700 meters, create a mesmerizing spectacle. Thác Tóc Tiên’s name is intertwined with a beautiful legend. Local folklore tells of fairies, drawn to the area’s breathtaking beauty, who would bathe in the cool waters. As they combed their long hair, it flowed over nine layers of stone. This created the illusion of the magical nine-tiered cascade. Thác Tóc Tiên, fed by underground springs on Ba Na Mountain, flows year-round. It’s a source of life, even during the hottest months of central Vietnam’s dry season. The surrounding landscape adds to the waterfall’s allure. The stream bed and banks, lined with ancient hardwood trees, create a natural sanctuary. The air is cool and the atmosphere serene. It’s a place where the noise and worries of daily life fade away. The journey to Thác Tóc Tiên begins with a short trek from the main resort area of Ba Na. The path, a little over a kilometer long, meanders through lush vegetation. It crosses the stream once, over a simple wooden bridge. Small cascades, like mini-waterfalls, tumble down the mossy rocks. These smaller waterfalls, like Thác Cây Đa and Thác Đế Vương, foreshadow the main event. As you approach Thác Tóc Tiên, the sound of rushing water intensifies. The sight of the nine-tiered waterfall, seemingly untouched by time, is truly breathtaking. The name, Fairy Waterfall, seems perfectly fitting. It’s easy to imagine fairies, captivated by the beauty, returning to bathe in its magical waters.
