“An inclusive congregation awaits.” That’s the feeling you get standing before Saint Timothy’s Episcopal. It welcomes all on their faith journey. Please come and continue your travels with us as we experience the presence of God together.
Saint Timothy’s Episcopal is part of the Episcopal Diocese of Los Angeles. It is also part of the Episcopal Church and the Anglican Communion.
Saint Timothy’s Episcopal celebrates the full inclusion of all the baptized in all the sacraments. We rejoice at the equal participation of women in ordained ministry. We affirm LGBTQ relationships in holy matrimony.
Episcopalians worship in a participatory way. It is not designed just to be observed by the congregation. Episcopalians worship in different ways. Some services are very formal. These use all the senses with fancy clothes or vestments. They use smells with incense. They use sound with music. Touch is used with water and oil. Taste is used with bread and wine. Some services are more contemporary. These are less formal. They use more contemporary music.
Episcopal worship is liturgical. This means that our worship follows a set pattern. It does not change much from week to week within a season of the church year. The seasons of the church year are based on the experiences of Christ’s humanity. The word liturgy stems from the word for drama. The congregation’s role as participants in worship is scripted for us all. We celebrate the joys and sorrows of life together in Jesus Christ through the Holy Spirit every week. We say prayers together. We read Psalms together and the like.
At Saint Timothy’s Episcopal, we currently have one service at 9:30 AM. We provide a bulletin that has all the words of the service. Newcomers do not have to learn where to go next in the service. We also sing hymns that usually come from the Episcopal Hymnal. They are traditional hymns. We occasionally sing music from more contemporary hymnals.
Our mission is to love God and one another. Through our love for God and one another, we seek to lovingly serve humankind. We also serve all Creation in spirit and in truth. We seek to daily be an expression of love to the community in our midst. Through works of loving service, we seek to embody the love of Christ towards all God’s Creation. St. Timothy’s Episcopal amazing team of staff and volunteers are committed to offering loving service to others. We take our faith and turn it into action. Faith without works is dead.
