Sector V, now a bustling IT hub, started its journey in 1989 as the Salt Lake Electronics Complex. The West Bengal Electronics Industry Development Corporation, or WEBEL, dreamt of a space dedicated to electronics manufacturing. They chose this spot, a sprawling 430-acre plot in Bidhannagar, conveniently close to Kolkata Airport. WEBEL’s vision attracted not only electronics companies but also IT and Business Process Outsourcing firms.
