Did you know that Haddon Township High School opened in September 1962? It stands as the lone secondary school in the Haddon Township School District. The school serves students from ninth through twelfth grades. Haddon Township High School is located at 406 Memorial Avenue. It is a comprehensive public high school.
Originally, Haddon Township students attended Collingswood High School. Some also went to Haddonfield Memorial High School or Audubon High School. The establishment of Haddon Township High School provided a local option. The school’s colors red and white were chosen in December 1961.
The initial plans described a school with a maximum capacity of almost 1300 students. It opened with nearly 900 students in grades 7-10. Students in grades 11 and 12 continued at Collingswood High School then. The two-story addition to the junior high cost $1.75 million. Dedication ceremonies were held in November 1962.
Haddon Township High School offers courses in math and science. Languages and humanities are also taught. Students can also learn various vocational skills. The school provides athletics and after-school clubs. Haddon Township High School uses a quarter-semester system. It employs a 5-point GPA scale. Advanced Placement and honors-level courses are available.
As of 2023-24, the school had 628 students. There were 49.4 classroom teachers. The student-teacher ratio was 12.7:1. Haddon Township High School has a wide array of clubs and organizations. These include Student Council and the Robotics Club. There is also a Drama Club and a Mock Trial team.
The Haddon Township High School Hawks compete in the Colonial Conference. The school offers 28 varsity athletic programs. These span across the fall, winter, and spring seasons. Several teams have earned state and sectional championships.
The boys’ cross country team has won multiple state championships. Haddon Township’s 13 state titles rank high among New Jersey schools. The team has also won many South Jersey sectional championships. The boys’ track and field team has secured three state championships.
The softball team won a state championship in 1972. They also won the Group II title in 1979. The baseball team claimed the 1979 Group III state title. The wrestling team has twice won the South Jersey Group II sectional championship.
Several notable alumni have walked these halls. Laurie Beechman a Broadway actress graced the stage. Tony Black became a record-holding jockey. Gloria Casarez became a civil rights leader. Julianna White was crowned Miss New Jersey USA 2011.
Gary O’Brien is the school’s principal. His administration team includes assistant principals. The mission of the Haddon Township School District is clear.
