Can a church be a fire station? At the Bible Church of Christ in the Bronx, it absolutely can be. This Bible Church of Christ, right here on Morris Avenue, is known as the “Fire Station.” It earned this nickname because of the dynamic energy within its walls, a spiritual fervor that has touched countless lives. The Bible Church of Christ was founded in 1961 by Bishop Roy Bryant Sr. His vision was to create a church built solely on the Bible and Jesus Christ. He wanted a place where the unadulterated word of God could be preached. The headquarters here in the Bronx opened in 1976. It has served as the central hub for the church’s international ministry, extending its reach across the United States, Africa, and even India. The church’s doctrine embraces the power of miracles, healing, deliverance, and the baptism of the Holy Ghost. Bishop Bryant himself, a Doctor of Divinity and an ordained exorcist, has penned three books on demonology. These are “Manual on Demonology, Diary of an Exorcist,” “Satan the Motivator,” and “Who’s in Your Body With You?” Interestingly, he even established a three-year Demonology course at The Bible Church of Christ Theological Institute right here in the Bronx. While the headquarters are in the Bronx, the Bible Church of Christ has locations across New York and beyond. There’s a branch in Mount Vernon housed in a cathedral-like building with a steeple and stained-glass windows. Another branch in Schenectady started through outreach work at Albany University. And remarkably, there’s a branch in Dagsboro, Delaware, a building that Bishop Bryant largely built himself. He left his home and churches to oversee its construction. So, the next time you pass the Bible Church of Christ on Morris Avenue, remember its nickname, the “Fire Station.” It’s a testament to the burning faith and active ministry that continues to change lives within its walls.
