Twenty-five years ago, a visionary leader planted a seed in Córdoba. That seed was the Universidad Libre del Ambiente, or ULA. Today, we stand before the fruits of that vision, a testament to the power of education and the importance of environmental stewardship. The Universidad Libre del Ambiente isn’t just a building. It’s a hub of knowledge, a catalyst for change, and a beacon of hope for a sustainable future. Founded by Rubén Martí, the ULA has become a vital part of Córdoba’s identity. In 2020, the city celebrated the ULA’s 25th anniversary. Mayor Martín Llaryora presided over the ceremony, marking a renewed commitment to environmental education. During the celebration, a partnership between the National University of Córdoba, the provincial Ministry of Education, and the ULA was announced. This partnership led to the creation of a technical degree in Environmental Management, further solidifying the ULA’s role in shaping future environmental leaders. The ULA offers a diverse range of programs focused on environmental care and sustainability. You can find information about their courses and programs on their website. In 2024 alone, over 27,000 people engaged with the ULA through its various educational initiatives. These offerings included courses, workshops, diplomas, extension activities, seminars, training sessions, and educational visits. The ULA’s impact extends beyond traditional academic programs. The Empleos Verdes program provides training with a focus on job opportunities and social impact. This program includes workshops on dry toilets and bicycle mechanics, as well as courses on solar energy equipment installation, garden maintenance, object repair and repurposing, and regenerative gardening. The Universidad Libre del Ambiente continues to grow and evolve. It stands as a testament to the vision of its founder and the ongoing dedication of those who believe in the power of environmental education.
