This impressive building stands before you. It’s Dollards. Do you see the grandeur?

Dollards is more than just a building. It’s a significant piece of Dublin’s history. It was once the Dollard Printing House. This prominent building was constructed on the site of an earlier retail building. That older structure sat on part of Thomas Burgh’s Custom House site. Intriguingly fragments of the original Custom House were found during its construction.

The Dollard Printing Company was established in 1856. Thirty years later it moved to this very location. The building itself dates from 1888 to 1890. It was one of the largest custom-built commercial premises in the city at that time. The architect is sadly unknown. But the building shows incredible craftsmanship. The use of granite and brick adds visual interest and texture. It’s a testament to the skills of the builders.

Even more remarkably Dollards was one of the first buildings in Dublin to use a structural frame system. Imagine the innovative engineering involved. This impressive structure has stood the test of time. Its red brick facade and unique design speak volumes.

Dollards held a unique place in Irish history. The first Irish Free State postage stamps were printed here in 1922. Think about it. Those very first stamps were printed right here. This building played a significant role in the nation’s history. It continued as a printworks until the 1980s. Then it became office space.

Now Dollards stands as a vital example of a nineteenth-century urban industrial building. It is a stunning reminder of Dublin’s rich history. The impressive structure is a landmark. This building’s rich history should be preserved. It is a tribute to the skills and artistry of the past. It’s a testament to Dublin’s enduring spirit. Remember Dollards.
