A church built on faith. That’s Gospel Way Baptist Church. Its story begins not in a grand cathedral but in a humble beginning. Seventeen people gathered for the first service on April 17 1977. This was a mission church a testament to the power of community.
Gospel Way Baptist Church wasn’t always here on Bella Vista Street. Its early days were spent in a repurposed Wayside Inn a gas station and sandwich shop. Imagine the transformation from fuel pumps to pews. A fascinating shift in purpose. Then the congregation moved to Pink and Academy Street in Cherryville North Carolina. It’s a different state but that’s where their story unfolds.
For eighteen years the church thrived at that location. Growth and stability marked this period. Finally in 1996 a new chapter began. Gospel Way found its current home. This building previously served as a Teamsters Union Hall. God’s hand was truly at work. The church purchased new pews and carpet. A new Fellowship Building was completed too. All paid in full a remarkable achievement.
Pastor Herman Simpson led the flock for 29 years. His simple yet powerful message focused on The Book the Blood and the Blessed Hope. A legacy that continues to inspire. He passed away in March 2006. Dr Lindsay followed as pastor serving until February 2014. His contributions too were vital to the church’s growth.
