Founded in June 1991 the Haitian Church of the Nazarene Friends of the Humble began its journey. Less than 50 members attended the first worships. Today this church stands as a beacon of faith and community. It’s one of the largest Haitian churches in Greater Boston.
Pastor Pierre-Louis Zephir played a pivotal role. He founded the Greater Boston Nazarene Compassionate Center in 1996. This center is a ministry of the church. It addresses the spiritual and socio-economic needs of the Haitian community in Boston. The Center is located at 130 River Street in Mattapan Massachusetts. It’s a vital hub within the immigrant community.
The church’s growth is remarkable. From humble beginnings it now boasts more than 250 members. The congregation’s rapid expansion revealed a deeper need. Many parishioners faced social issues such as hunger lack of education and language barriers. This led to the compassionate ministry’s creation.
Initially a food pantry was established. Later health education English classes and after-school programs were added. Thousands of families receive support. This includes displaced Haitians who fled after the devastating 2010 earthquake. The church strives to address the holistic needs of its community. It aims to promote spiritual growth health and welfare in a culturally sensitive manner. The church embodies the love of Christ through its outreach and compassion. Its impact extends far beyond its walls. The Haitian Church of the Nazarene serves as a testament to faith resilience and community spirit.
