“Tea, coffee … and beer!” That’s the motto that hangs in the air as we approach Disconnect Art Gallery and Record Shop. This isn’t just another Berlin storefront. Disconnect is a collaborative project. It unites Praxis Records, Yaya23 Records, and the artistic vision of Haedre.
Disconnect Art Gallery and Record Shop emerged from the closure of a previous music shop. That shop was near Ostkreuz station. The team found a new space on Finowstrasse 25 in Friedrichshain. It took two months of renovations. A crowdfunding campaign helped bring the project to life. Disconnect opened its doors on March 23, 2019.
Step inside Disconnect. You’ll find a curated mix of music, books, and art. Vinyls, tapes, CDs, and art prints line the shelves. Original artworks, comic books, and magazines fill the space. Disconnect supports local artists and self-published works.
Disconnect is more than a shop. It is a bright and inviting space. Psychoactive art adorns the walls. Electronic music fills the air. You might hear drone, avant-garde, breakcore, or tekno. The shop also offers a selection of unique comics.
The space at Disconnect is designed to be flexible. It hosts exhibitions, talks, and lectures. You might find screenings or workshops taking place. It’s a hub for counter-current artifacts.
But Disconnect also caters to other senses. Taste high-grade tea sourced directly from China. This is offered in the traditional Chinese way. Savor coffee from radical Latin American producers. Ethical associations in Hamburg supply the coffee.
Disconnect embraces modern currency. They accept Bitcoin. Look for the current show featuring Haedre. Explore Simon Lejeune’s sci-fi art. His watercolor paintings depict the future.
