“Sixty months,” they said. That is how long it would take to complete the Northern Emirates Reinforcement Works. Standing before RBBB-132KV, it’s hard to imagine the intricate dance of engineering and construction that birthed this essential component of Abu Dhabi’s power grid.
RBBB-132KV is more than just steel and wires. It represents a crucial step in ensuring a reliable power supply for the region. This substation plays a vital role in the Northern Emirates Reinforcement Works. This ambitious project includes extending three 400/132kV substations with powerful 500 MVA power transformers.
Consider the scope of the work. It involves the installation of 132kV capacitor banks in two substations. Also, there are 46km of 400kV double circuit overhead lines. A new 132/11kV substation and related 132kV cable works are also part of the plan. These cables stretch for 11km in Shakbout City. This is all happening right here in Abu Dhabi.
Think about the preliminary design. Specialists took measurements and conducted sizing system studies. Specifications for 132kV power compensation and filter capacitor banks were prepared. Geotechnical and topographic surveys were carried out. This project also involved tendering, EPC contract awards, design reviews, and site supervision during construction.
The Abu Dhabi Transmission and Dispatch Company, TRANSCO, is the client. Their vision is to enhance the power infrastructure. The project duration is estimated to be 56 months for the Shakbout City substation. The Northern Emirates Reinforcement works are estimated to take 60 months.
Imagine the engineers, draughtsmen, and technicians. They work tirelessly to bring light to the lives of the people in the UAE. EEE has been a leader in power transmission lines in the UAE since 1977. They completed the first interconnection of the power systems of the Northern Emirates. This was the West Coast interconnection with 220 kV and 132 KV lines.
Picture the first Emirates National Grid 400 kV and 220 kV overhead lines finalized in 2005. EEE is the only company in UAE to have worked in all phases of interconnection of Emirates. They were the first in completing a 400kV monopole overhead lines project in the Middle East.
RBBB-132KV stands as a testament to innovation. It shows dedication to progress and a brighter future for Abu Dhabi. The next time you switch on a light, remember the intricate network and the skilled individuals who keep the power flowing.
