Later Prince Phanurangsi Sawangwong stumbled upon the dilapidated temple. He recognized its potential. He undertook a significant restoration project renaming it Wat Phanu Rangsi. This act breathed new life into a forgotten sanctuary. Today you stand before the fruits of his labor.

The ordination hall the ubosot is a magnificent structure. Built in the Maha-Ut style it’s characterized by its lack of windows on the walls. An oval-shaped opening graces the back wall a unique architectural detail. Within this hall resides Luang Pho Tor a highly revered Buddha image. Devotees flock to pay homage and make wishes. The sema stones surrounding the ubosot are another fascinating feature. They’re in the Ayutthaya style dating back to the reign of King Borommakot. They face the Bang Phlu Canal. Wat Phanu Rangsi’s ubosot underwent a significant restoration during the reign of King Rama IV. The temple also hosts several annual events. The most notable are the nine-day gilding of Luang Pho Tor in March and the nine-day candle-casting ceremony for Buddhist Lent in July.
