Medieval Arabic writers described Yusuf ibn Tashfin. He was of average build. He had a clear brown complexion. Yusuf ibn Tashfin had a thin beard. His voice was soft. His speech was elegant.

Ali ibn Yusuf succeeded Yusuf ibn Tashfin. He was viewed as devout. Ali ibn Yusuf expanded the mosque. He extended it from 18 to 21 aisles. The structure became more than 3000 square meters.
