Amidst the bustling energy of Berlin, find serenity at Kloster St. Augustinus. Kloster St. Augustinus isn’t just a building. It’s a testament to resilience and faith, nestled in the heart of Lankwitz. The Marienschwestern, driven from their war-torn Breslau home, found solace in Berlin. They began their work at the Mater Dolorosa parish in 1945. They tirelessly cared for refugees, transforming a temporary shelter into St. Franziskusheim, a home for the elderly and infirm. Their journey continued in 1948 to Gallwitzallee. They repurposed a former barracks, naming it Maria Trost, slowly building a hospital. Kloster St. Augustinus stands as a symbol of their dedication. In 1966, thanks to politician Johann Baptist Gradl, the Marienschwestern acquired the complex. The hospital thrived, undergoing renovations from 1987 to 1993 and becoming Sankt-Marien-Krankenhaus in 1990. The Kloster itself, with its serene chapel, was built between 1992 and 1996. Cardinal Sterzinsky consecrated the chapel on September 5, 1996. Admire the artistry of Erentrud Trost. Her six stained-glass windows, three on each side of the altar, depict the Church filled with the Holy Spirit and Mary as the Church. Kloster St. Augustinus continues to be a vital part of the community. In 2006, the two German provinces of the Marienschwestern merged. In 2016, the Kloster hosted the Provinzkapitel, paving the way for the 2017 Generalkapitel in Berlin. Kloster St. Augustinus became part of the Pastoralen Raum Lankwitz-Marienfelde in 2018. Since January 2022, it has belonged to the St. Maria – Berliner Süden parish. The Kloster St. Augustinus stands as a beacon of hope and resilience, a testament to the enduring power of faith.
