Can you imagine a high school with a nature preserve inside? Edsel Ford High School isn’t your average school. Right here, nestled within its walls, is Thornley Court. It’s a haven for turtles, ducks, geese, and even peacocks. Students care for these animals, learning responsibility and connecting with nature in a unique way. Edsel Ford High School opened its doors in 1955, with the first graduating class in 1956. It’s one of three public high schools in Dearborn Public Schools, standing alongside Fordson and Dearborn High. Located on Rotunda Drive, near Oakwood, Edsel Ford High School has a rich history. It was originally built with a strong focus on the humanities. There was even a dedicated Humanities program where students delved into art, music, and English. This program, sadly, was discontinued after 52 years. The school is now dedicated to preparing students for life after graduation, emphasizing academics and character development. Today, Edsel Ford High School serves over 1,500 students from grades 9-12. The school prides itself on its diverse student body. Students are actively involved in a variety of activities. These include sports, clubs, and community service. The school has a special program for freshmen called the 9th Grade Academy. The Academy teachers collaborate to create a focused program. This program aims to prepare the incoming students for the challenges and opportunities of high school. Upperclassmen in the LINK Crew also help freshmen transition from middle school. They act as mentors and guides, offering support and advice. Edsel Ford High School strives to provide a well-rounded education. This reflects the vision of its namesake, Edsel Bryant Ford.
