Established in 1989 in the Jongno-gu district, Seoul Science High School quickly gained recognition for its rigorous selection process, drawing the brightest middle school graduates from across the nation. Imagine a school where a third of the sophomore class graduated a year early. That was the reality for many at Seoul Science High School, thanks to an accelerated program. This wasn’t simply a school; it was a launchpad for future scientists and innovators. The transition in 2009 to Seoul Magnet High School marked a shift towards a more comprehensive approach to gifted education. Selected by the Ministry of Education, Seoul Magnet High School became one of only eight such academies in the Republic of Korea. The change brought a reduced class size, a non-graded credit system, and an intensified focus on research and interdisciplinary studies. Seoul Magnet High School continues the legacy of its predecessor, fostering a culture of intellectual curiosity and rigorous academics. It feeds the top universities in Korea and abroad, with graduates commonly heading to institutions like Seoul National University, KAIST, POSTECH, MIT, Caltech, and many others.
