“A new day, a new way, same Jesus!” That’s the motto Bishop Darryl S. Brister uses. We’re standing before Beacon Light Baptist Church of Haiti in New Orleans. It’s a testament to faith and resilience.

Bishop Darryl S. Brister leads this vibrant congregation. He was born in New Orleans in 1966. Bishop Brister’s journey is inspiring. He received his preaching license in 1989. He was ordained in 1992. By 1996 he became a Bishop at just 29 years old.

Beacon Light grew rapidly under his leadership. Before Hurricane Katrina, the church had over 7000 members. The hurricane devastated the church buildings. Members scattered across the United States. Bishop Brister worked tirelessly. He rebuilt the Cathedral. It reopened on August 29, 2014.

Beacon Light is once again thriving. It is rebuilding one day at a time. The church embraces people from all backgrounds. It is multi-ethnic. It is multi-cultural. The church impacts the world with Jesus’ love. They embrace freedom in worship. The word says, “Where the Spirit of the Lord is, there is Liberty”.

Bishop Brister ministers around the world. He has visited Japan and Holland. He went to Panama and Korea. He traveled to Iceland and Africa. He also went to Trinidad, Tortola and Europe. Bishop Brister attended Louisiana State University. He served in the United States Army. He earned degrees from McKinley Theological Seminary. He also studied at Friends International Christian University.

Bishop Brister founded DSB International Ministries. This non-profit provides spiritual materials to those incarcerated. The Darryl S. Brister Scholarship Fund supports graduating seniors. It assists high school students with uniforms.

He has authored nine books. Titles include “Exposing the Enemy” and “Recovering From Ruptured Relationships.” In 1999, the Beacon Light Mass Choir released their first CD. It was entitled “It’s All About Him”. Bishop Brister also founded a Bible college and a Christian Academy. He oversees several Beacon Light churches. These are in Houma, Hammond, Baton Rouge, and even Haiti.

Bishop Brister is married to Dr. Dionne Flot Brister. She is First Lady of Beacon Light. Dr. Brister earned a doctorate. She established Girls Are Talkin’ a non-profit for youth. She is the Overseer of the Women’s Ministry.
