“A school for whole and holy citizens.” That is Al-Iman School’s simple philosophy. Here in Jamaica Queens Al-Iman School stands as more than just a school. It embodies a vision of holistic education rooted in Islamic values.

Al-Iman School started its journey in September 1990. It began with just four students. This humble beginning marked the start of what would become the first fully fledged Pre-K through 12 Islamic school in New York State. Within four years Al-Iman School expanded rapidly. Demand drove its growth. It became a comprehensive educational institution.

Grand Ayatollah Syed Abul-Qasim AL-Khoei played a vital role. He was the school’s main benefactor. His support helped establish Al-Iman School as a cornerstone of Islamic education in the community.

The school’s philosophy focuses on producing well-rounded individuals. Al-Iman School wants its students to be accomplished in mind body and spirit. The goal is to integrate them into society. They should embrace Islamic values like diligence hard work and respect. Al-Iman teaches true Islam. This means eschewing violence encouraging forgiveness and promoting harmony.

Al-Iman School is a New York City and New York State certified school. It serves students from New York City and its outer boroughs. Al-Iman offers open enrollment throughout the academic year. Availability depends on classroom space.

Located on Van Wyck Expressway Al-Iman School occupies a 75000-square-foot building. A traditional Islamic dome and minaret crown it.

Al-Iman School is more than bricks and mortar. It fosters a community. It strives to nurture students who embody Islamic values. Students assemble to recite from the Quran. They make small oral presentations. This helps them improve verbal skills.

Al-Iman School faced space constraints. It purchased a closed-down warehouse. Plans were made for a four-story extension. This expansion would house a gym and health club. An Olympic-size swimming pool would be available to the community. Two floors of classrooms laboratories and administrative offices will be added. These will connect to the existing building.

The Imam Al-Khoei Foundation’s research library enriches Al-Iman School. It contains over fifteen thousand volumes. These books cover all aspects of Islam. Comparative religion is included. The library is open to the community and Al-Iman faculty. The school receives assistance from the Education Department. Books and audio-visual equipment are provided.

Al-Iman School uses its 1000-seat congregation hall for various events. Prayers celebrations and commemorations take place here. The school uses the stage and pillars for science fairs. Heritage Day and graduation ceremonies also happen here. Al-Iman School has modern curriculum. New York City and New York State Board of Education prescribe it. Special emphasis is placed on Islamic values and prayers. The school provides well-equipped computer and science laboratories. There are also indoor and outdoor basketball courts. Al-Iman offers AP programs med prep programs and karate. Extracurricular activities include Drama Club Debating Society and journalism training.

Al-Iman School stands as a testament to dedication. It provides holistic education. It instills strong Islamic values. It prepares students to be accomplished and contributing members of society.
