Overwhelming isn’t it? The Sheikh Zayed Grand Mosque stands before you a breathtaking testament to faith and artistry.
This magnificent structure isn’t just a mosque. It’s a symbol of the United Arab Emirates its history and its aspirations. Built between 1996 and 2007 the Sheikh Zayed Grand Mosque is the country’s largest mosque. It’s a key place of worship for daily Islamic prayers. The late Sheikh Zayed bin Sultan Al Nahyan commissioned it. He envisioned a structure uniting the cultural diversity of the Islamic world with modern architectural values. The Sheikh Zayed Grand Mosque boasts 82 domes of varying sizes. The largest dome soars to a height of 85 meters. Four minarets rise majestically to a height of 107 meters. The courtyard is a breathtaking spectacle. It features a world’s largest marble mosaic.
Step inside the main prayer hall. Marvel at the world’s largest hand-knotted carpet. It’s a masterpiece woven by around 1200 to 1300 Iranian artisans. The carpet alone weighs 35 tons. Notice the intricate floral designs. They are inspired by flowers from the Middle East. They are created using colored marble inlays.
Look up. Seven imported chandeliers from Germany dazzle with millions of Swarovski crystals. The largest chandelier is a stunning 10 meters in diameter and 15 meters tall. It’s one of the largest chandeliers inside a mosque.
The 96 columns in the main prayer hall are inlaid with mother of pearl. This exquisite craftsmanship is breathtaking. The Qibla wall facing Mecca features the 99 names of God in traditional Kufic calligraphy. It is a showcase of Islamic artistry and devotion.
