Did you know Pantanedo was once its own municipality? Today, it’s a part of Rho near Milan. But let’s take a trip back in time to understand Pantanedo’s story.

Pantanedo sits east of Rho. It edges toward Baranzate and Pero. South of Pantanedo, you’ll find the new Fiera di Milano. People from here are called pantanedesi.

Once upon a time, Pantanedo had borders. To the north was Mazzo. To the east was Cassina Triulza. Pero and Cerchiate were to the south. Rho lay to the west.

In the late 1700s, Pantanedo faced a sharp decline in population. In 1771, the area had 201 residents. By 1805 when the Kingdom of Italy was proclaimed, only 91 people lived here.

Then, in 1809, Napoleon issued a decree to shut it down. Pantanedo was joined with Terrazzano. Later, in 1811, Terrazzano was absorbed into Rho.

But Pantanedo’s story didn’t end there. When the Austrians came back, they briefly brought Pantanedo back as a municipality. However, in 1841, the Austrians changed their minds. They decided to add Pantanedo to Mazzo.

Following Mazzo’s path, Pantanedo became part of Rho in 1928.

Today, Pantanedo is a key transport hub. It hosts major junctions. These connect Milan’s Tangenziale Ovest. They provide access to the fairgrounds. They even link to the high-speed railway.

So, while Pantanedo may be a small part of Rho now, its history is quite rich. It shows how borders and power shifted over time. Next time you pass through, remember its past as an independent community. It is a place with a story.
