“Organized in 1946” is what the cornerstone says about Village Church. More than a decade after its first gatherings, the Village Church of Westwood Lutheran found its permanent home.

Traditional Sunday services fill the sanctuary at 10 am. Afterward, there is fellowship for all. It is a spiritual hub for the local community. The church opens its doors to various faiths. Village Church isn’t just for Christians. Ahavat Torah Temple calls it home. So does Sufi Islamic Musallah Tauhid. Even a Buddhist meditation center thrives here.

Tai Chi and yoga classes add to the diverse activities. Self-help groups find solace within these walls. A dedicated restoration in 2009 cleaned up the church’s cross. It also re-lighted the cross tower.

Rev. Janet Bregar leads the Village Church as pastor. She actively participates in interfaith organizations. Monks Without Borders benefits from her involvement. The Santa Monica Bay Interfaith Council values her insight. She also serves on The Southern California Committee for the Parliament of the World’s Religions.

Imagine the interfaith dialogues. Picture the yoga practitioners finding their center. Think of the self-help groups offering support. Village Church stands as a testament to inclusivity. It is a beacon of faith for many different groups. It is more than just a church. It is a community hub. It is a place of understanding and acceptance.

Next time you are nearby, take a moment to appreciate Village Church. Consider its long history and its welcoming spirit. It is not just a building. It is a living testament to faith and community.
