Initially they rented space once a month. Eventually they purchased the Methodist Church on Fremantle Road in Hillary. In July 1983 a church was born. It was called Fremantle Road Christian Fellowship.

This humble church served as their home until 2001. That year the House of Prayer purchased land on Ethelbert Road in Queensburgh. They built the current church building there. This new location marked a significant step in the church’s expansion and growth. It reflects their increasing congregation.

The name House of Prayer is deeply meaningful. It’s taken from Isaiah 56:7 and quoted by Jesus in the Gospels. “My house will be called a house of prayer for all nations”. This perfectly encapsulates their vision. It’s a place of worship open to people from all backgrounds and walks of life. It represents their commitment to global outreach.

Today the House of Prayer continues to thrive. It serves as a spiritual anchor for its community. The church hosts three Sunday services in Queensburgh. There are also services at Eagles Rest Mission in Shongweni. Beyond Sunday services the House of Prayer actively fosters community. They do this through weekly Connect Groups in members’ homes. These groups provide deeper fellowship and community building. They aim for three Connect Groups per month. The third week is set aside for ministries.
