The Amargasaurus Sculpture is part of Delhi’s new dinosaur park. The Municipal Corporation of Delhi created this park in Sarai Kale Khan. It is India’s first Jurassic Park-like attraction. This park is a creative endeavor made entirely from recycled materials.
The Amargasaurus itself was a unique sauropod. It lived during the Early Cretaceous epoch about 129 to 122 million years ago. The real Amargasaurus roamed what is now Argentina. It was named “La Amarga lizard” because its fossils were found in the La Amarga Formation.
This dinosaur was relatively small for a sauropod. It measured around 30 to 43 feet long. It weighed approximately 2.8 tons. What set it apart were the two parallel rows of tall spines along its neck and back.
Scientists still debate the purpose of these spines. Some think they supported a skin sail for display. Others suggest they were covered in a keratinous sheath for defense. These spines could also have been used for species recognition or even to make sounds.
The Amargasaurus was an herbivore. It likely fed on vegetation from trees. Its teeth were pencil-like and well-suited for stripping leaves.
The dinosaur park where this sculpture resides features 54 colossal dinosaur replicas. They range from 9 to 65 feet in height. These replicas are crafted from scrap metal, discarded tires and car remnants.

The park also features a 60-foot-wide Spinosaurus replica with a play area. A 65-foot-tall Diplodocus stands at the opposite end. Its tail is transformed into a slide.
