“Can you imagine a temple that moved?” That is the story of the \u5929\u53f0\u771e\u76db\u5b97 \u9db4\u6e80\u5bfa Stele. It stands here today as a testament to time. It is also a symbol of faith. The \u9db4\u6e80\u5bfa Temple’s history is long. Its exact origins are unclear. Temple records suggest it began in the Nara period.

Originally the \u9db4\u6e80\u5bfa Temple may have been located elsewhere. It could have been in Ise, Kawachi, or Sumiyoshi Minamihomachi. Eventually it was moved to this location.

\u9db4\u6e80\u5bfa belongs to the Tendai Shogoson sect. Once it was famous for its cherry blossoms. Its image even appears in classic rakugo stories. Within the temple grounds stands a significant treasure. It is a bronze bell. This bell showcases early Goryeo styling. It is a masterpiece marked with the inscription “Taihei 10 Years” from 1030. It once belonged to Fuso Zenji Temple. The Mori family donated it to this temple.

The main deity of \u9db4\u6e80\u5bfa is Amida Nyorai. It was created during the Kamakura period. It is designated as an Osaka Prefecture Tangible Cultural Property. The main hall has an outer and inner chamber creating a compound structure.

The outer chamber features a five-bay front and side. It has an irimoya style roof. The front has a kohai. Inside the temple is divided into six rooms with a central rear area. Four heavenly king pillars stand. The ceiling has a sao-buchi design.

The inner chamber features a three-bay front and a five-bay side. The roof has a hōgyō-zukuri style. This creates a complex structure. The ceiling has a lattice design.

Construction of the \u9db4\u6e80\u5bfa began in 1750. A wealthy merchant named Soemon Hirohisa Ueta sponsored it. The ridgepole was raised in 1752. Construction finished in 1753.

The structure with an independent inner chamber is rare. Similar designs exist at Xijiao Temple and Raiko Temple. These temples also belong to the Tendai Shogoson sect. \u9db4\u6e80\u5bfa’s design likely drew inspiration from them.

Originally the temple faced south. Road expansion in 1985 caused a change. It was reoriented to face west. Despite the changes \u9db4\u6e80\u5bfa remains. It stands as a precious example of architecture. The \u5929\u53f0\u771e\u76db\u5b97 \u9db4\u6e80\u5bfa Stele marks a place of reverence. It signifies a journey through time. It embodies the spirit of Osaka.
