The Gamledam, Danish for ‘Old Dam,’ wasn’t always a lake. It began its life as a humble bog, a damp ravine cradling a small stream. The landowner, seeking to harness nature’s power, dammed the stream, giving birth to the lake that graces the landscape today. This transformation triggered a flourishing ecosystem.
What makes the Gamledam truly special is its rich biodiversity. This ecological haven thrives due to minimal interference and the surrounding farmland’s nutrient runoff. The lake boasts a carpet of sphagnum mosses, dotted with the glistening carnivorous sundew. Look closely, and you might see the sundew’s sticky tentacles, poised to trap unsuspecting insects!
