Founded in 1984 Peace Lutheran Church stands as a testament to unwavering faith. Its story began not in a grand cathedral but in the humble multipurpose room of Hollymead School. Imagine the small congregation gathered there. Their voices filled the space. Their hearts full of hope.
The first official service was held on February 12 1984. Later that year on September 29th Peace was formally organized in a meeting room of the English Inn. A festival service celebrating the installation of Reverend Ronald Chelton their first pastor followed shortly after. Regular worship and Sunday school were then held at the Hilton Inn. This temporary space served as a cradle for the church’s growth. Think of the dedication of those early members. Their perseverance paved the way for what exists today.
The church found a permanent home in 1994. Christmas Eve of that year marked the first service in the current building. The joy must have been overwhelming. Think of the carols sung. The prayers offered in this new sanctuary.
The church’s growth continued. In 2013 a new wing was added. This addition provided more Sunday school rooms an updated kitchen a resource room and a basement youth space. Peace Lutheran Church was no longer just a place of worship. It became a vibrant community hub. It now hosts countless events. Seven 12-Step meetings are held each week. Scouts meet there. Local groups gather. Craft groups including weavers spinners and smocking guilds meet regularly. An art camp has found a home in this bustling community centre.
Peace Lutheran Church’s journey is more than just bricks and mortar. It is a narrative of dedication resilience and community spirit.
