Founded on May 17 1938 St Thomas Preparatory School stands proudly. It’s a testament to the vision of Mr W T Keble a renowned educator and author. He believed in all-rounded students. His school would foster academic excellence alongside music sport and community service.
From its humble beginnings with 95 boys and seven teachers St Thomas Preparatory School grew. Today over 950 boys aged 6 to 16 fill its classrooms. The school offers education up to the O/L level. It has always followed the national curriculum. It also pioneered innovative programs in music sports and service.
Many dedicated headmasters shaped St Thomas Preparatory School. Norman G Abeynaike the first headmaster steered the school through wartime challenges. J T R Perinpanayagam expanded the school’s facilities. J S L Fernando served for nearly three decades. N Y Casie Chetty knew every student and teacher by name. Rev Dushantha Rodrigo and now Rev Nihal Fernando continue this legacy. Their commitment ensures the school’s strong foundation.
