Sixteen boys walked through Moyle Park College’s gates in 1957. That September morning marked the beginning of a remarkable journey. Moyle Park College a Catholic voluntary secondary school had opened its doors. It was founded by the Marist Brothers. They had traveled from Athlone to Clondalkin. They transformed an old house into a school. This house was on a large property named Moyle Park. The main entrance was from Convent Road.

The history of Moyle Park is rich. It goes far beyond its founding in 1957. The land housed the United Irishmen’s arsenal and gunpowder factory. Years later it hosted a pioneering educational effort. A new mill was built in 1782. This was under the patronage of the Right Honourable James Earl of Charlemont. Mr William Caldbeck a well-known barrister oversaw construction. He even built a foundry for casting brass cannons for volunteers. The mill’s inauguration was quite a celebration. The volunteers marched from Phoenix Park. Mr Caldbeck hosted a feast. Sadly five years later the mills exploded. The shock was felt all the way to Dublin. Chimneys fell in Usher’s Quay.

Moyle Park College quickly became a local hub. Clondalkin was a small village then. It had only one street and a pump. The pump still exists. The Marist Brothers’ vision transformed the area. They provided well-kept grounds and playing fields. The school responded to the community’s needs. The Clondalkin Residents Association advocated for a new school. They wrote to Archbishop John Charles McQuaid. He invited the Marist Brothers to establish Moyle Park College. The school’s buildings were funded by a Building Fund Committee. The committee was made up of dedicated parents and friends.

Today Moyle Park College continues to thrive. It offers a broad education. Academic social cultural and spiritual aspects are balanced. A strong ethos of care permeates daily life. The college boasts a 26-acre campus. There are extensive sporting facilities. The motto Respice Finem means setting objectives and working towards them. The college hosts a summer English language program. Students from across the globe attend. Notable alumni include politicians sports stars and television personalities. Moyle Park College is more than a school. It’s a testament to community spirit. It’s a legacy of vision and dedication. It’s a place where history comes alive.
