The soaring glass tower pierces the Salzburg sky. This is the Evangelische Pfarrgemeinde A u H B Salzburg-Süd. Its modern design stands in contrast to the city’s baroque heart. But its story is deeply rooted in Salzburg’s evolving religious landscape.

The Evangelische Pfarrgemeinde A u H B Salzburg-Süd is the newest parish in the Salzburg-Tirol diocese. Dedicated in 1999 it serves a community of approximately 2000 Lutherans and Reformed believers. Its location near the Kommunalfriedhof cemetery was intentional. The name Auferstehungskirche Resurrection Church reflects this proximity to the final resting place.

Imagine its construction. Workers shaped concrete and glass. They built a structure reminiscent of ancient Anatolian cities. The church’s central space is surrounded by community rooms. These rooms include the pastor’s office and the Katharina von Bora student residence. The 19-meter-high transparent tower acts as a beacon. It dominates the entrance.

The church boasts a unique Corpus Christi. Created by artist Hans-Peter Profunser it hangs above the altar. Notice its absence of hands and feet. This is a deliberate artistic choice. Profunser intended to highlight that we are Christ’s hands and feet. We are called to continue His work.

The Evangelische Pfarrgemeinde A u H B Salzburg-Süd’s boundaries are precise. To the south it stretches to the border with Grödig. This border also marks the Austrian state line. Westward the boundary follows Grödig’s western edge then along the Glan river to Bräuhausgasse. Northward it runs south of Bräuhausgasse to where the Almkanal meets Neutorstraße. It continues along the Almkanal to Reichenhallerstraße then alongside the Mönchsberg and Festungsberg to Nonntaler Brücke. Finally the eastern border is the Salzach river. It extends to the confluence of the Königssee Ache. It also includes parts of Anif and Grödig.

This modern church in a historic city stands as a testament to faith and community. It serves a growing congregation. Its design embodies a unique blend of tradition and innovation. It offers a spiritual home to thousands. The Evangelische Pfarrgemeinde A u H B Salzburg-Süd is more than a building. It is a living center of faith and hope.
