Established in 1966 Sekolah Kebangsaan Jalan Selangor a school for girls initially opened its doors in 1967. Its early years were spent temporarily housed in another school. Imagine 222 students and just five teachers crammed into a space not intended for so many. They were under the guidance of headmistress Puan V E Lorenz. The official opening came in June 1967 when the girls moved into their new two-block building. This contained fifteen classrooms. The school faced challenges its headmistress and school board chairman Dr Hooi Peng Kwan worked tirelessly to overcome. Think of the logistics involved in setting up a school from scratch. The initial building had some problems. The school grounds also needed work.

By January 1968 the school had grown significantly. More students joined swelling its numbers to 707. The teaching staff also increased to 18. The school’s growth eventually led to its division. In June 1971 it became two separate schools. Each had its own headmistress. They were named Sekolah Rendah Kebangsaan 1 Jalan Selangor and Sekolah Rendah Kebangsaan 2 Jalan Selangor. A Parent-Teacher Association was formed in 1973. This strengthened the bond between teachers and parents.

Construction continued. A new building added ten more classrooms opening in 1976. By 1988 the school had acquired a new name. It officially became Sekolah Kebangsaan Jalan Selangor 1. The 1980s saw further improvements. A library was built thanks to the efforts of both schools’ PIBGs. It was opened by Encik Saw Chee Leng the Selangor Education Director. Subsequent years brought more additions. These included a resource room guidance and counselling rooms a fish pond a surau and a guardhouse. More improvements followed including a hall a treatment room and a reading nook. The school’s grounds also saw the addition of a catfish pond and a dragon fruit orchard. Sekolah Kebangsaan Jalan Selangor a beacon of education has witnessed growth and progress evolving from its humble beginnings to its current standing. Its history is a testament to the dedication of its staff students and community.
