So, here we are in front of the Calvary Orthodox Presbyterian Church. It was a pretty big deal when this church was founded. In the middle of the 1930s, a group of Christians in Pennsylvania felt that their religious beliefs were drifting away from traditional Presbyterian doctrine. There was a movement called Modernism creeping into some churches. These Christians didn’t want anything to do with it. They wanted to keep things pure, based on the Bible and the old ways, so they left their old congregations. They decided to form their own church back in 1936, right here in Glenside. It became known as the Calvary Orthodox Presbyterian Church. This church, and its founding, was a bit of a rebellion against the old guard, a desire to reclaim what they felt was true faith. It’s a story of faith, commitment, and a dedication to keeping things traditional. This church is not just a building; it’s a symbol. The congregation holds strong to those beliefs to this day and has grown quite a bit over the years.
