Dating back to 1906, Oceanside High School stands as a beacon of tradition. It is located in Oceanside, California. Oceanside High School is more than just a school. It is a place where Pirate core values are lived out daily.
Oceanside High School’s history is rich. Originally, it occupied the second floor of a one-room schoolhouse. This building stood on the site of the present campus. For much of the early 1900s, Oceanside High School served a vast region. Its territory stretched from Encinitas to Vista.
Did you know that in 1934 Oceanside High School opened a junior college division? It operated on the eastern side of campus. It remained until Mira Costa College opened its campus in the 1970s.
Today, Oceanside High School covers about 32 acres. It sits in downtown Oceanside. Senior Hall is the oldest building still in use. In 2000, Oceanside residents passed a $125 million bond measure. This provided funding for renovations. These included new landscaping and athletic fields. A new Science & Technology building was built. A performing arts center opened in 2017.
Oceanside High School’s mascot is the Pirate. This tradition began in the 1930s. The school colors are green, black, white, and silver. A unique tradition involves the senior class. Since the 1970s, they have taken their class photo on Oceanside Municipal Pier. Except for the class of 1979 who took their picture on the football field. Graduation ceremonies occur at the campus football stadium.
Oceanside High School serves a diverse student body. A significant portion comes from military families. These families are stationed at Marine Corps Base Camp Pendleton. The school is an important resource for them. It provides high school education not available on base.
