Founded in 1906 Temple Sinai proudly stands as the oldest and largest Conservative congregation in the greater Los Angeles area. Imagine the founders’ vision. They sought a place to practice traditional Judaism amidst a changing world. Their initial meetings took place in a B’nai B’rith hall on Figueroa Street. The congregation later moved to a building at 12th and Valencia streets near what is now the Los Angeles Convention Center. This building would eventually become the Welsh Presbyterian Church a designated Los Angeles Historic-Cultural Monument. Can you picture those early services? The congregation’s growth demanded larger spaces. In 1925 they moved to a building at 4th and New Hampshire Streets. This space too became too small.
