“What echoes remain of a military academy in this bustling ward?” I ask you now. Phường Giảng Võ. It is a place that subtly whispers tales of martial prowess.

Giảng Võ is a ward in Ba Đình district Hanoi. The ward covers merely 0.4 square kilometers. It is home to over 18000 residents. That is a population density of over 46000 people per square kilometer.

Once here stood the Giang Vo Hall. It was a place for military practice. Military strategies were taught here. Military drills were performed here.

The echoes of the past resonate even today in Phường Giảng Võ. This place links directly to Hanoi’s military history.

Imagine a time when the Ly Dynasty ruled. It was in 1010. The Giang Vo Hall was constructed. Later in 1070 the Archery Hall followed. Emperor Tran Thai Tong then established the Giang Vo School in 1253.

The Le Dynasty further shaped the area. In 1481 they dug the Hai Tri Lake. This lake encompassed Giang Vo Kim Ma and Ngoc Khanh. Thuy Ngoc Palace was built in the lake’s center. Soldiers trained and tested their skills at the Giang Vo Hall.

Interestingly archaeologists unearthed thousands of ancient weapons near Ngoc Khanh Lake. They link these weapons to the Giang Vo military academy. This discovery highlights the area’s historical importance.

These relics underwent serious study. Two scientific conferences confirmed the findings. The Ngoc Khanh Lake area was indeed part of the Giang Vo Military School. The school dates back to the Le Dynasty.

Today the Hanoi Museum preserves these artifacts. This collection includes spears swords and halberds. Signal guns and bullets are also displayed. Most weapons are made of iron.

Experts found remnants of furnaces and iron slag as well. This shows that the weapons were made locally.

The late Professor Do Van Ninh emphasized their importance. He considered the Giang Vo School weapons one of the most valuable sets of relics.

The An Dong access control tablet is another significant find. Embossed with Sinographic characters this ironwood tablet served as a military badge. It signified an army unit’s identity.

In January 2023 the Giang Vo Military School Weapons Collection became a national treasure. It stands as a testament to Vietnam’s military heritage.

Moreover Phường Giảng Võ contributes significantly to Hanoi’s identity. It is known as a historical place. The people of Giảng Võ are united and work hard. Together with the authorities they achieve great things in economic and social development.

Giảng Võ is a ward with a long history. It is a central ward of Ba Đình district. The name Giảng Võ reminds us of a famous military training ground. During the war against the French and Americans the people of Giảng Võ contributed to the struggle for national independence. Today it is a modern ward that strives for economic and social development.
