Over six thousand children. Can you imagine that many little hands planting acorns? This is the Millennium Monument. Right here in the heart of Millennium Oakwood.

The Millennium Monument is more than just a sculpture. It’s a testament to community. It’s a symbol of hope planted by the children of the Isle of Man. Each sapling a tiny promise for the future.

The monument itself is quite striking. The Manx Sword of State pierces a celestial globe. This orrery represents our solar system. The sword rests on a replica of Tynwald Hill. This ancient site symbolises the island’s enduring political stability. Below that sits the Three Legs of Man. The island’s proud emblem. Clever design isn’t it? The sword anchors the Isle of Man in time and space at the dawn of the new millennium. The orrery also acts as a sundial. On the first day of 2000 the sword’s shadow precisely marked noon.

But the story doesn’t end there. The creation of this wood began in Worcestershire. Manxman Cedric Quayle organised for children from two schools to gather acorns. Each child filled two bags. They brought these acorns to the Isle of Man. Every primary school child then grew their own sapling. Eighteen months later they planted it here. It was a grand event. Buses trains and trams transported over six thousand children to the site. The day included entertainers jugglers and stilt walkers. Even two RAF Hawk jets made a flypast. The planting was a major celebration involving the entire island. A special song was even written for the occasion.

The Millennium Monument stands as a symbol of this amazing community effort. A project of hope and unity for future generations. A legacy built by children. One tiny acorn at a time. It is a truly unique monument. A reminder of the Isle of Man’s spirit. It’s a place where history meets hope. A place where the past shapes the future. A place to remember. And to dream.
