A relic of the past stands before us. This is the Mulino Dugnani. Its story begins long ago in the 17th century. The Mulino Dugnani was already marked on a map from 1721. It was then a “house with a mill and an oil press” belonging to the Marquis Luigi Terzi.

The Mulino Dugnani has witnessed centuries of change. It was once a bustling grain mill. Imagine the rhythmic whirring of the millstones. Smell the freshly ground flour. Hear the chatter of workers. It also housed an oil press. Later in 1866 it was described as a “grain mill with a press and a granary” owned by the nobleman Giulio Terzi.

Today the Mulino Dugnani is a beautifully restored building. It stands along Via XXV Aprile in the Sant’Agata district. While adapted for residential use parts remain. The room with the millstones and machinery retains its original features. The structures facing the Roggia Sant’Agata canal remain largely unchanged. This is a testament to the building’s enduring strength and the respect for its history.

Now the Mulino Dugnani serves a different purpose. It houses a civic hall and a small museum of agricultural civilization. The hall hosts events. It’s a popular spot for meetings art exhibitions and even weddings. The Mulino Dugnani is more than just a building. It is a living link to the past. It’s a place where history and the present beautifully coexist.

The Mulino Dugnani reminds us of Milan’s rich agricultural heritage. This mill was once essential to the community. Its story is woven into the fabric of the city itself. It’s a place to reflect on how things used to be. It’s a celebration of resilience and adaptation. The Mulino Dugnani is a true treasure in the heart of Milan. A place to visit and reflect on.
