Discover the vibrant heart of Seoul’s art scene. Welcome to PACE Gallery a leading international gallery. Since 2017 PACE has been a fixture in the Hannam-dong neighborhood. This wasn’t a random choice. PACE purposefully chose Hannam-dong. They wanted to be part of a burgeoning artistic community. They weren’t interested in the traditional art districts. Instead PACE helped transform Hannam-dong into the creative hub it is today. Other galleries and organizations followed. Phillips auction house Gana Art Nineone and others soon joined PACE.

The gallery itself is housed in Le Beige Building. This building is an architectural gem designed by Minsuk Cho. He’s a renowned Korean architect. He even won the Golden Lion at the Venice Biennale of Architecture. Cho’s design incorporated Korean elements. These included burlap screens and ambient wood detailing. The gallery occupies two floors. It has over 790 square meters of exhibition space. The ceilings are high over 3 meters. There’s even a balcony overlooking the street. This is perfect for summer sculpture exhibitions.

PACE Seoul isn’t just a gallery. It’s a cultural force. Youngjoo Lee the Senior Director has been instrumental in its success. She’s dedicated to showcasing both international and Asian artists. PACE has introduced many renowned artists to Korea. These include Tara Donovan Richard Tuttle and Adam Pendleton. They’ve also highlighted important Korean artists like Song Dong. PACE is committed to more than just exhibitions. They’ve collaborated with major Korean institutions. This includes the Gwangju Biennale and the Seoul Museum of Art. PACE also actively fosters relationships with the local community.

The gallery’s commitment to innovation is impressive. PACE’s inaugural exhibition in its new space featured Sam Gilliam. This was Gilliam’s first exhibition in Asia. He’s a pioneer of postwar American painting. His work pushes boundaries. He blends painting and sculpture. His techniques are innovative. He uses fabric and layers of pigment. It’s like uncovering layers of history. PACE’s new space is designed for this kind of immersive art. The gallery has a ground floor gallery for this. It even features blackout curtains and a moving wall. PACE Seoul is much more than a gallery. It’s a dynamic cultural center. It continues to shape Seoul’s art scene. It demonstrates the power of art to connect cultures. Its impact will continue to grow. Enjoy your visit to PACE Gallery.
