Picture this a sprawling valley nestled in the foothills of the Cuyamaca Mountains. This is San Diego Country Estates. A planned community born in the 1970s from the vision of Raymond A Watt a national award-winning builder. He purchased 3250 acres in the San Vicente Valley dreaming of a vibrant new community. San Diego Country Estates is more than just homes. It’s a story etched in the very landscape.

Before the houses and roads the land belonged to the Kumeyaay people. These semi-nomadic people left behind grinding stones near creeks. These stones are a testament to their presence a link to a past stretching back centuries. The San Vicente Valley itself takes its name from Father Mariner. He discovered this valley in the 1700s. He declared it beautiful and named it in honor of Saint Vincent.

San Diego Country Estates has a rich history beyond its indigenous roots. It has witnessed legendary sporting events. In 1973 it hosted a tennis match between Bobby Riggs and Margaret Court. The match was held at the San Vicente Country Club and Golf Course Resort. Riggs the veteran triumphed over Court. The Estates is more than just a picturesque setting. It has faced the fury of nature’s wrath. The Cedar Fire and the Witch Fire. These wildfires threatened the community. The Witch Fire in particular caused a massive evacuation. Thousands fled. Evacuation routes were jammed. The wind thankfully shifted course. This saved many lives and prevented the fire from engulfing the entire Estates.
