Christ The King Lutheran Church. A bittersweet tale unfolds within these walls. A church born in the post-war boom of Harvey Park, Denver, in the mid-1950s. A time when families flocked to the suburbs, seeking new homes and spiritual anchors. Christ The King became that anchor for many, a vibrant hub with a Sunday school bursting with nearly 600 children. Three services every Sunday couldn’t contain the burgeoning congregation. But time, as it always does, marched on. Life grew complex. Schedules tightened. The internet age dawned. Church attendance dwindled, a slow but steady decline. By 2022, a mere 35 souls filled the pews on an average Sunday, their numbers bolstered by home-bound members, reaching perhaps 45 to 50. A congregation of predominantly 75 years and older remained, steadfast in their faith. They had witnessed the church’s journey from bustling center to quiet sanctuary. These faithful few, they loved each other, their community, and their church. They carried the legacy of Christ The King, a legacy of faith, service, and community, a legacy now etched in memory. January 8, 2023, marked the final service, a poignant farewell to a beloved spiritual home. The church building may be closed, but the spirit of Christ The King lives on in the hearts of those who called it home.
