Before this grand structure, there was a small chapel, perched on the beach, offering solace to those seeking refuge from the sun. The little chapel started to crumble, swept away by the waves. The people of Ribamar knew they would have to build a new home for their faith. So, they built a new chapel, a stronger, more permanent structure. This one stood closer to the shore, offering a place of refuge not just to the sunbathers, but also to the community. The chapel grew, and after several years, it was no longer sufficient. The people of Ribamar needed a bigger space to gather and pray. So, in 1954, they demolished the second chapel and constructed a larger, more majestic church: the Igreja Paroquial de S\u00e3o Jos\u00e9 de Ribamar. The church stands today as a symbol of resilience of its people, an emblem of the strong bond they share with the sea.
