Feel the Madrid sun on your skin. Parque de Aluche beckons with its promise of shade and stories. This isn’t just a park. It’s a green lung in the heart of the Aluche neighborhood.

Originally named Parque del Alcalde Carlos Arias, its history is intertwined with Spain’s past. Inaugurated in 1973, the park was a project of then-mayor Miguel Ángel García-Lomas Mata. Carlos Arias Navarro, a prominent figure in the Franco regime, also promoted it.

But times change and so do names. In 2016, the park was officially renamed Parque de Aluche. This change reflected the wishes of the community. It also complied with the Historical Memory Law.

The land beneath Parque de Aluche has a fascinating story. High-tension cables once crisscrossed this area. An agreement between the city and electric companies led to their burial. The result was the creation of this park.

Parque de Aluche offers a welcome escape from the city’s heat. Cafés, bars, and ice cream shops line its avenues in summer. Locals and tourists gather to enjoy the pleasant atmosphere.

Notice the artificial stream. It follows the path of the old Luche stream. The stream is now channeled. Green spaces and trees line both sides. Pines, poplars, and cedars offer shade.

Spanning nearly 16 hectares, Parque de Aluche is divided by Illescas Street. The northern section boasts sports facilities. There is a football field, basketball courts, and pétanque courts. A fairground hosts local festivals. An auditorium provides space for cultural events.

The southern part of Parque de Aluche features the artificial stream. It stretches for 500 meters. Waterfalls and ponds dot the landscape. Rockeries add to the scenery. You will also find more sports facilities and playgrounds here.

Look for the monument near Illescas Street. It commemorates Constitution Day. The monument celebrates the rights and duties of Spanish citizens. A cedar tree stands within a large flowerbed.

Parque de Aluche underwent renovations in 2008. The artificial stream was repaired and improved. A water purification system was installed.

More improvements came in 2009. New walkways were created. Trees and shrubs were planted. Lighting and street furniture were upgraded. Sports facilities and playgrounds were rebuilt.

Parque de Aluche is more than just a park. It’s a place of recreation. It’s a green space with a unique history. It’s a place where the community gathers. It’s a testament to the transformation of a neighborhood. It’s a vibrant part of Madrid.
