\u5927\u4f9d\u7f85\u795e\u793e’s history stretches back centuries. The exact date of its founding remains a mystery. Yet, its roots are deeply intertwined with the local \u4f9d\u7db2 region. This area was once home to the \u4f9d\u7f85 clan an ancient lineage. They played a vital role in the shrine’s early years.

The shrine’s name comes from the \u4f9d\u7db2 area. In ancient times \u4f9d\u7db2 was known for its large irrigation pond. This pond was built by royal decree to support agriculture. Though much of it disappeared in 1704, it remains a key part of the area’s history.

\u5927\u4f9d\u7f85\u795e\u793e has seen its share of ups and downs. During the medieval period the \u4f9d\u7db2 clan declined. This led to a decrease in the shrine’s influence. The nearby \u5927\u8056\u89b3\u97f3\u5bfa temple took over some of its duties. A fire in 1659 destroyed the shrine’s buildings, they were rebuilt.

The Meiji era brought significant changes. The shrine became independent from \u5927\u8056\u89b3\u97f3\u5bfa temple. It rose from a village shrine to a prefectural shrine. Despite another fire in 1969, \u5927\u4f9d\u7f85\u795e\u793e persevered. In 1971, the main hall was rebuilt with reinforced concrete.

Over the centuries \u5927\u4f9d\u7f85\u795e\u793e received many honors. In 847, it was designated as an official shrine. By 909, it had risen to the rank of “Senior Second Rank”.

The main deities of \u5927\u4f9d\u7f85\u795e\u793e are Takehiwawake no Mikoto and the Sumiyoshi Sanjin. Takehiwawake no Mikoto is believed to be the ancestor of the \u4f9d\u7f85 clan. The Sumiyoshi Sanjin are three deities associated with maritime safety. Other deities are also enshrined here. These include O己貴命, Tsukuyomi no Mikoto and Emperor Chuai.

Within the grounds, you can find several interesting features. The Dragon God Well is one. Legend says a dragon living in the \u4f9d\u7db2 pond could bring rain. Farmers would pray at the well for relief during droughts. The shrine also has a main hall. It was rebuilt in 1971 after the fire.

Today \u5927\u4f9d\u7f85\u795e\u793e continues to be a vital part of the community. It hosts various festivals throughout the year. The Spring Festival is held on April 16th. The Summer Festival takes place on the second Sunday of July. The Autumn Festival is celebrated on the second Sunday of October.
