“Diamond Truss” so named. Does it sound special?

Welcome. This is a part of the old Japanese army air force. It is the site of the Second Hangar of the Old Army Balloon Unit Diamond Truss in Chiba. This monument marks a piece of history right here in Chiba.

The Second Hangar of the Old Army Balloon Unit’s Diamond Truss once stood in Inage Ward. It was a part of the only Japanese army unit for military balloons. In 1927, the unit moved from Tokorozawa in Saitama Prefecture to Inage Ward.

The Diamond Truss got its name from its unique construction. The second hangar completed in 1934 used a three-dimensional structure. It was a massive building with a gabled roof.

During the war, this site played a crucial role. From 1944 to 1945, it housed the core of “balloon bombs”. These bombs aimed to strike the American mainland.

After the war, a private business 川光倉庫 used the Diamond Truss as a warehouse. However, the structure deteriorated over time. It was dismantled in 2020.

A portion of the Diamond Truss now resides in Chiba Park. It serves as a war memorial. This relocation ensures the story of the Diamond Truss lives on. It reminds us of the past and the importance of peace.

The preservation of the Old Army Balloon Unit’s Second Hangar Diamond Truss is vital. Amidst global conflicts, remembering history and striving for peace are paramount. The Diamond Truss stands as a symbol. It symbolizes the hope for a peaceful future. It serves as a reminder of the cost of war. Let’s reflect on this history. Let’s commit to building a world free from conflict.
