“Another temple?” I hear you ask. Yes but Kiyomasa Temple is special. Kiyomasa Temple is a Buddhist temple in Chiba. It is located in Yatsushiro City.

Let’s step back in time to understand Kiyomasa Temple better. Kiyomasa Temple’s address is 284-0011 Chiba Prefecture, Yotsukaido City, Yatsugasaki. The temple is a 19-minute walk from 物井 Station. That is about 1443 meters.

The temple is in the 佐倉・印旛沼 area. Kiyomasa Temple is near Yotsukaido City.

There is another Kiyomizu-dera in Chiba. It is in Isumi. This Kiyomizu-dera is also known as Seisui-ji. People call it Kiyomizu Kannon. Kiyomizu-dera in Isumi is temple number 32. It is on the Bandō Sanjūsankasho. This is a pilgrimage route of 33 temples. These temples honor Kannon.

Legend says that Sakanoue no Tamuramaro founded Kiyomizu-dera in Isumi. He lived during the Heian period. He was the first shogun. He also helped build Kiyomizu-dera in Kyoto. He built the Isumi temple. It was like a copy of the Kyoto temple. Most Heian buildings burned down. This happened in the Muromachi period. Fires occurred between 1469 and 148. Not many Heian buildings remain today. The Main Hall was rebuilt between 1688 and 1703.

Kiyomizu-dera in Isumi has a bell tower. It also has an Okuin-dō. You can also find Shi Tennō-mon. The Niōmon is another structure.
