Oamishirasato was created on January 1, 2013. Oami Town, Shirasato Town, and Masuho Village merged. The new town became Oamishirasato Town on December 1, 1954.

Before that Shirasato was elevated to town status on August 10, 1935. Oami Town expanded by annexing Yamane and Mizuho villages on April 1, 1951. Then the town annexed a portion of Honnō Town in November 1, 1957.

Before that Oami Town and Shirasato Village were created in Sanbu District on April 1, 1889.

Oamishirasato has a humid subtropical climate. Expect warm summers and cool winters. Light snowfall is possible. The average annual temperature is 15.2 degrees Celsius. August sees the highest temperatures around 26.2 degrees Celsius. January sees the lowest around 5.3 degrees Celsius.

The city’s population was about 49,019 in November 2020. The population density is 840 people per square kilometer. Oamishirasato covers 58.06 square kilometers. The city is long and narrow from east to west. The hilly Oami district lies to the west. The agricultural Masuho district is in the center. To the east, the Shirasato district faces the Pacific Ocean.

Misaki Doi a professional tennis player is from here. Aya Miyama a women’s professional soccer player is also from Oamishirasato.
