The residents also banned animals. Only household pets and egg-producing hens were permitted. Septic tanks handled sewage. This was until a municipal system became available. The residents had to avoid activities that could disturb their neighbors.
Daisie Sessions donated land for a playground. It targeted young families. The Bayview Acres Civic Club maintained the playground and entrance markers. This organization was responsible for street paving and signs.
In 1957, Bayview Acres became a bird and squirrel sanctuary. Hunting was banned. This made it more family-friendly. Later, the civic club led a mosquito abatement program. It was a county-wide effort to manage summertime pests.
Bayview Acres has evolved. Some original bungalows are replaced with larger homes. A few half-acre lots were subdivided. It remains a desirable place to raise a family.
Today, Bayview Acres offers convenience. It is near beaches, landmarks, and downtown Charleston. The community has about 150 homes. They offer amenities such as a boat ramp and a tennis court. You can find a ball park and a picnic area too.
